Fabrizio Di Caprio
Assistant Professor at University Sapienza of Rome, Italy.
Fabrizio Di Caprio graduated in Industrial Chemistry at University Sapienza of Rome in 2013. In the same year, he worked on the start-up of a pilot plant for microalgae cultivation. In 2017 he obtained is PhD in Chemical Engineering, with a thesis about the development of a process for wastewater treatment integrated with microalgae biomass production. He spent six months of his Ph.D. at Wageningen University (Netherlands) in the Bioprocess Engineering group. From 2016 to 2021 he worked in the Department of Chemistry at University Sapienza of Rome as research fellow. His research activity is mainly focused on the valorization of waste and wastewater through their conversion in high value biobased products by using microalgae. In particular, he works on developing selective processes to control bacteria contamination in non-sterile heterotrophic and mixotrophic microalgal cultivations and on developing biorefineries to extract starch, pigments and proteins from microalgae. Since December 2021 he is Assistant Professor (RTD-A) at Sapienza University of Rome.
